Planning permission

Planning permission - How much and who's responsibility?

We recently learnt that a window company had said they would charge £800 to submit the relevant forms to planning for replacement windows. This did not include the council’s planning fees.

Ok, so planning can be a long-winded process, however on this occasion it involved one simply form, a set of photos, a scaled plan of the property and the window profiles.

So, if you require planning to replace windows make sure you are not being over charged for this service.

On this occasion we only asked the client to cover the cost from the local council.

Word of advice, it is your responsibility as the homeowner to check to see if planning is required. Check with your local planning department if you are unsure.

If you do need planning its always worth seeing if anyone else in your road/area has had planning granted. This will give you a good indication as to whether it is likely to be approved.

The council fees on the above mentioned job were £206 in fees and £15 to purchase the requires site map.
