The decorative bars on windows are commonly called “glazing bars”.
Other names you might hear:
Georgian bars – a popular style with a grid pattern (often seen in traditional homes)
Astragal bars – more authentic, fitted to both sides of the glass with a spacer in between
Astragal bar vs Georgian bar (easily confusion!)
This trips a lot of people up, so here’s the quick difference:
➕ Astragal bars
• Fixed onto the surface of the glass (inside, outside, or both)
• Usually paired with a spacer bar inside the sealed unit
• Give a more authentic, 3D appearance
• Slightly more expensive, but look better up close
➕ Georgian bars
• Inside the sealed unit only
• Completely flat (sandwiched between the glass)
• Easier to clean, cheaper, but less realistic
