🔧 The Replacement Process
Inspection
A glazier checks the window frame and confirms whether only the sealed glass unit needs replacing or if the frame is also damaged.
Measuring the unit
Exact measurements of the glass unit (height, width, thickness) are taken.
Sometimes the glass has special coatings (e.g., Low-E for energy efficiency), which the replacement should match or upgrade.
Removing the old sealed unit
The window beading (the strips holding the glass in place) is carefully removed.
The damaged or misted glass unit is lifted out.
Preparing the frame
The frame is cleaned, and any debris, old sealant, or moisture is cleared.
Spacer blocks may be adjusted to ensure the new unit sits correctly.
Fitting the new glass unit
The replacement double-glazed unit is placed into the frame.
Beading and seals are refitted to hold it securely and ensure it’s airtight and watertight.
Final checks
The glazier checks that the unit is fitted snugly, with no draughts or gaps.
The glass and frame are cleaned, and the window is tested for proper operation (if it opens).
⏱ How long does it take?
Replacing just the glass unit in one window usually takes 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Larger or more complex windows may take longer.
